*A Gospel Poverty Manifesto
Prayer, simplicity, and concern for the poor and neglected. What might my life look like if I emphasize these three ideas? Would I reflect more of my Savior and Lord? Would I replicate less of myself into the world around me? Let's define eac h of these concepts
Conversational Prayer – This is ongoing dialogue with God. It is both listening and speaking. Implicit in this idea is: the mandate of obedience to what God says. It emphasizes intimacy with Jesus with silence and solitude as regular spiritual disciplines .
Simplicity – This is living life in an orderly, straightforward way. It has both an inward and an outward dimension. Implicit within this idea is: excellent use of all that God has entrusted to me. It involves radical commitment to the way of the cross. It involves taking only what is needed for basic living and giving the rest to the poor and other Kingdom causes such as evangelism, churchplanting and missions
Love for the poor and neglected– This is being the hands and feet of Jesus to those whom the world looks down upon and rejects. Implicit within this idea is: loving God is best done by loving others. This includes prayer, presence, provision, proclamation and demonstration of the gospel and advocacy.
It is my resolution, by God’s grace, to enter into a life of the practice of prayer, pledge of simplicity, and the promise of love for the poor and neglected. With this prayer and my signature upon this document I enter into a holy oath taken in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit:
Father, grant me Your faith to accomplish Your will,
Jesus, grant me Your love as I follow after You,
Spirit, grant me Your hope to sustain these vows of commitment.
